Welcome to the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Nanotechnology website.

From Silicon Valley and the Bay Area and throughout Southern California, the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTFN) charter is to promote all of California as the national and worldwide center for nanotechnology research, development and commercialization. The primary objective of the task force is to help develop a regional nanotechnology economic development initiative. The task force will document its work in one or more white papers that analyze the direction and state of nanotechnology, and propose specific recommendations that will position California as the national and worldwide center for nanotechnology research, development and commercialization.

There are two types of buttock augmentation: The lifting of the buttocks. The surgical enlargement of the buttocks through the insertion of a synthetic butt implant or through the use of substances like silicone.

Otoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery to change the appearance of a person's external ears. Otoplasty can take many forms, such as bringing the ears closer to the head (often called ear pinning), reducing the size of very big ears, or reshaping various bends in the cartilage. Other reconstructive procedures deal with the deformed, or abscent-microtic ears.

Vaginoplasty is any surgical procedure whose purpose is to treat vaginal structural defects, affect aesthetic considerations, or to partially or totally construct or reconstruct a vagina. The term vaginoplasty is used to describe any such vaginal surgery, while the term neovaginoplasty is more specifically used to refer to procedures of partial or total construction or reconstruction of the vulvovaginal complex.

During a neck lift, sections of the skin are trimmed and lifted into place. The lifted skin is contoured to create a pleasing neckline. Once properly contoured, the skin is fixed in place with tissue glue.

Vacuum massage is a type of therapeutic massage which is used for body sculpting, cellulite reduction and to treat such diseases as osteochondrosis, colds, bronchitis and pneumonia. The medical effect of this massage is realized by means of vacuum that causes the local rush of blood and lymph to skin from deep lying tissues, which exerts the reflex influence on vessels of internal organs. Usually vacuum massage is performed by using rubber glass a small silicone massager.

Breast reconstruction is the rebuilding of a breast, usually in women. It involves using autologous tissue or prosthetic material to construct a natural-looking breast. Often this includes the reformation of a natural-looking areola and nipple. This procedure involves the use of implants or relocated flaps of the patient's own tissue.

Laser resurfacing is a technique used during laser surgery wherein molecular bonds of a material are dissolved by a laser. It is often used in a medical context, especially in dermatology, for the treatment of acne vulgaris, scars (see acne scar treatment), and spider telangiectasias or "spider veins" a symptom of ataxia telangiectasia.

Lipo-dissolve or Lipodissolve, LipoShape or Lipostabil (fat injections), also called injection lipolysis, is a controversial cosmetic procedure in which various non-FDA approved drug mixtures, often called PCDC, or phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate, are injected into patients to remove fat. This practice evolved from the initial intravenous use of PC-containing drug formulations to treat blood disorders. In 1966, investigators noted that the intravenous infusion of PC-containing solutions could remove fat emboli.

Contour threads are used in cosmetic/plastic surgery to vertically thread lift facial tissues that have dropped ("ptosed") or become sunken with age. The "ptosis" or descent of facial tissues with aging is a universal phenomenon to which much cosmetic facial surgery is directed.

Body contouring is a general term that refers to any surgical procedure that alters different areas of the body, whether it is in a massive weight loss patient or not. Body contouring after massive weight loss refers to a series of procedures that eliminate and/or reduce excess skin and fat that remains after obese individuals lose a significant amount of weight, in a variety of places including the torso, upper arms, chest, and thighs.

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty (liposculpture), liposculpture or suction lipectomy ("suction-assisted fat removal") is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from many different sites on the human body. Areas affected can range from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, to the neck, backs of the arms and elsewhere. The fat is usually removed via a cannula (a hollow tube) and aspirator (a suction device).
